If you’re looking to repair a Windows registry, you’ve come to the right place. Microsoft registry repair is fairly simple.
The key is, you need to know what it is you’re doing in the
first place.
Throughout this site I cover in detail how to repair the registries of Microsoft’s various versions of Windows like XP and Vista. So if you know specifically which registry you’re trying to repair, check out one of those articles.
The first place to start for to repair a Microsoft registry is to know what version of Windows you’re working with – 95,98, 2000, XP or Vista.
Fortunately, regardless of what version you have, the basics apply and most of the steps are the same.
It’s easy to edit the Microsoft registry. Repair is only necessary when you’re computer is REALLY acting up.
But here’s a basic overview of what you’ll need to do if you’re going to go about it manually:
Get into Microsoft’s Registry Editor. To do that, type in RegEdit in the RUN textbox. Then hit Enter.
This brings up the regedit dialog box. This is where you’ll see all the registry entries and their directories.
From here it’s simply a matter of deleting what you want or don’t want to keep.

Again, for more specifics, check out the other articles on this site for a more detailed, step-by-step look at how to do that.
One word of caution: When it comes to repairing a Microsoft registry, you need to be careful. Deleting an entry you shouldn’t have could cause your PC to crash.
And if you don’t create a recovery disk in advance, then chances are you’ll have to format your drive and start fresh. To avoid that, ALWAYS create a recovery disk BEORE attempting any kind of Microsoft Registry Repair.
Also, an alternative is to simply shell out a few bucks and get a decent registry cleaning software.
This is probably he easiest, safest – and quickest – option available. I recommend X as it’s one of the best pieces of software for Microsoft registry repair out there.
There ARE free registry cleaners out there, but they really don’t do as good of a job as most of the paid ones. So I’d stay clear of them, simply because when it comes to your registry you really don’t want a piece of software to be too aggressive and delete entries that were actually needed by Windows – the end result being a PC that crashes.
So to sum up, Microsoft registry repair is simple. You can go about it manually, by typing RegEdit into the RUN textbox found in the Start menu. From there delete entries you think aren’t needed. And don’t forget to backup the registry AND create a Windows Recovery disk in case you delete something you shouldn’t have.
Or like I mentioned earlier, let a piece of software handle it! (my favorite option for any kind of Microsoft Registry Repair. J )
